Privacy Policy

Short version: We collect very little. Email if you subscribe, basic analytics, and whatever cookies our ad network needs. We never sell your personal information.

1. Who we are

AffordMap ("we," "us," "our") operates AffordMap.com (the "Site"). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your choices. It applies to all visitors and subscribers of the Site.

2. Information we collect

Information you provide directly:

Salary alert subscriptions: email address, and optionally your occupation interest and location preference.
Contact forms: your name and email when you contact us for corrections or support.
API registration: email address and organization name if you sign up for API access.

Information collected automatically:

Analytics: We use Google Analytics 4 and Microsoft Clarity to understand how visitors use the Site. These services use cookies and may collect IP addresses, device information, pages visited, and interaction data. Google Analytics data is used in aggregate to improve the Site. Microsoft Clarity records anonymized session replays and heatmaps to help us identify usability issues. No financial inputs you enter into our calculators are transmitted to these services.
Server logs: Our hosting provider (Vercel) may collect IP addresses and request metadata in standard server logs. These are retained for security purposes and typically deleted within 30 days.
Advertising cookies: If we display third-party advertisements (Mediavine, AdThrive, or similar networks), those partners may place cookies on your device for ad targeting and measurement. See "Cookies" below.

Information we do not collect:

We do not collect Social Security numbers, financial account numbers, precise geolocation, health information, or any other sensitive personal data. We do not require account creation to use the Site. Our salary calculators and tools run in your browser and do not transmit your inputs to our servers.

To provide and improve the Site and its features
To understand aggregate usage patterns (not individual behavior)
To display relevant advertising
To detect and prevent abuse of the Site or API

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for their own marketing purposes.

4. Cookies and tracking

Essential cookies: We use minimal cookies necessary for Site functionality (e.g., session handling). These cannot be disabled.

Analytics: Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity use cookies to track usage patterns. Google Analytics cookies are typically retained for up to 14 months. You can opt out of Google Analytics by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on. You can opt out of Clarity tracking at clarity.microsoft.com/optout.

Advertising: If we participate in an ad network, that network may use cookies and similar technologies for ad personalization, frequency capping, and performance measurement. You can opt out of personalized advertising through:

Do Not Track: We respect Do Not Track browser signals. When detected, no advertising cookies will be placed by our Site. Third-party ad networks may have their own DNT policies.

5. Third-party services

We use the following processors, each governed by its own privacy policy:

Vercel - hosting and content delivery
Supabase - database hosting (subscriber data stored with encryption at rest)
Resend - transactional email delivery
Google Analytics - website analytics and usage patterns
Microsoft Clarity - session recording and heatmaps for UX improvement
Ad network (Mediavine, AdThrive, or Ezoic) - display advertising

When you click an affiliate or advertising link, you leave our Site and are subject to the destination site's privacy practices. We are not responsible for those practices.

6. Data retention

Subscriber emails: Retained until you unsubscribe, at which point your record is marked inactive. Records are permanently deleted within 90 days of unsubscription.
Contact messages: Retained for up to 12 months, then deleted.
Server logs: Retained by our hosting provider for up to 30 days.
Analytics data: Aggregate data retained indefinitely. No individual-level data is stored.

7. Your rights

All users:

Unsubscribe: Every email includes a one-click unsubscribe link.
Access and deletion: Email privacy@affordmap.com to request a copy of your data or its deletion. We will respond within 30 days.
Correction: Email us to correct any inaccurate personal information we hold.

California residents (CCPA/CPRA): You have the right to know what personal information we collect, request its deletion, and opt out of its sale. We do not sell personal information. To exercise your rights, email privacy@affordmap.com with the subject "CCPA Request." We will not discriminate against you for exercising these rights.

European residents (GDPR): If you are located in the European Economic Area, you have additional rights including data portability, restriction of processing, and the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority. Our legal basis for processing subscriber emails is your consent (opt-in); for analytics and security, our legitimate interest. To exercise your rights, email privacy@affordmap.com with the subject "GDPR Request."

8. International data transfers

Our servers are located in the United States. If you access the Site from outside the U.S., your information may be transferred to and processed in the U.S., where data protection laws may differ from your jurisdiction. By using the Site, you consent to this transfer. We use processors that maintain appropriate security measures for international data handling.

9. Data security

We protect your information through HTTPS encryption in transit, encryption at rest for database storage, access controls limiting who can view subscriber data, and regular security reviews. However, no method of electronic transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

10. Children's privacy

AffordMap is not directed at children under 13 (or under 16 in the EEA). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If we learn that we have collected information from a child, we will delete it promptly. If you believe a child has submitted information to us, please email privacy@affordmap.com.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be noted at the top of this page with an updated effective date. If a change materially affects how we handle your personal data, we will notify active subscribers by email before the change takes effect.
